CURRENT STATUS OF THE GERODIETETICS IN UKRAINE

This article is concerned with the current status of the gerodietetics in Ukraine, which has been developing along the following five directions:
- Monitoring of the factual nutrition of older population groups in varying longevity level regions, of various nationalities, residing in urban and rural areas, living in families and alone, or in homes for the aged;
- Study on the relationship between nutrition specificities and the state of metabolic and functional parameters of an aging organism, a possible role of nutrition specificities in the formation of both age-related and pathological changes;
- Effects of purpose-designed alterations of nutrition on the state of definite kinds of metabolism and functions in aging;
- An experimental lifespan prolongation under the action of various quantitative and qualitative alimentary influences, aiming at a possible use in the practice of human nutrition;
- Substantiation, development and introduction of the new functional gerodietetic food products for the elderly.

The use was made of the versatile and thorough research methods: epidemiological, hygienic, biochemical, clinical, etc.
