GREEN TEA POLYFENOLS: ULTRAVIOLET (UV-B)-INDUCED IMMUNE SUPPRESSION AND CARCINOGENESIS PREVENTION

N.V. Velikaya, V.N. Zalessky

Abstract: Green tea is a worldwide popular beverage, which has characteristic aroma, famous taste features and healing abilities. The epicatechin derivates, which are commonly called "polyfenols", are active ingredients of green tea and have manifest antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-carcinogenic properties. The role of green tea polyfenols in the prevention of ultraviolet (UV-B)-induced cyclobutone pyrimidine dimers (DNA photoproducts) in cell formina, and control of UV-D-induced photo-immune reactions in human and animal organisms analyzed. Abilities of green tea polyfenols as ointments and extracts in citoprotection of skin against UV-damaging are discussed.
